We love a good ghost story. Whether one
is a believer or a doubter, tales of hauntings can be quite fascinating. Things become even more interesting when
a true-believer squares off for a debate with a debunker. The debunker believes that ghosts belong in the primitive
& superstitious days of a bygone era, and have no place in our modern, enlightened era.
It is true that many well documented ghost stories come to
us from previous centuries. But I recently discovered that even then, there were debunkers.
In 1841, British poet & journalist Charles Mackay wrote
a book with the grand title of "Memoirs of Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds", in which he
debunks (among other things) ghost stories going back hundreds of years.
